Millennium Challenge Acount-Malawi breaks MCC record

Entering Into Force (EIF) is one of the milestones to achieve under the five year implementation calendar. For MCA-Malawi, the target was beyond EIF, to get the First Quarterly Disbursement (FDQ) and commence project implementation soon after EIF. This has been achieved making MCA-Malawi the first Compact to EIF and get first disbursement concurrently.
“To be the first country to EIF and access the first quarterly funding speaks volumes about the commitment and collaboration among the energy sector stakeholders including the Ministry of Energy and its technical department, ESCOM and MERA and of course MCA-Malawi,” said Dr Winford Masanjala Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Energy.
“I am very proud, as everyone should be, of the contribution the technical personnel in all these organizations who saw to it that “all the i’s are dotted and t’s crossed” so that conditions precedent to both EIF and first quarterly disbursement were fulfilled,” Dr Winford Masanjala added.
The MCA-Malawi Board Chair Mr Simon Itaye said the success of the Compact is historic.
“What this means to us as a board is that together with the MCA-Malawi management team we have the ability and capacity to attain our set goals and objectives and by focusing on key strategic issues, MCA-Malawi should be able to complete the project within its five year time frame. We are very excited with this achievement and we are moving forward with the confidence and trust that our management team is capable of delivering and exceeding our expectations on the implementation of the project,” a proud Itaye said.
With the Project Plans approved, MCA-Malawi and its project partners the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and the Ministry of Energy, project implementation is on track.
