“NEW E-MIS WILL SIMPLIFY WORK AT ESCOM”

The recent migration to a new Management Information System (MIS) at the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) will help simplify work within the institution as it will change the entire business processes at ESCOM.

E-MIS Manager at ESCOM David Tandwe says with the new system in place, ESCOM expects increased productivity as business units within will now make informed decisions.

The new system was effected on January 18, 2018.

“The E-MIS is changing the entire business processes and it will help improve decision making at department level, division level as well as corporate level. This was not possible before as there was no integration among various systems,” says Tandwe.

He says information at hand is already showing that ESCOM is now more accurate in terms of generating reports coming from its central data base.

According to Tandwe, previously, ESCOM messengers used to carry huge documents and files from one place to another but said with the new system, everything will now be electronic.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), through the Millennium Challenge Account-Malawi (MCA-Malawi), initiated to support the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) with the supply, installation, implementation, commissioning and support of an ESCOM Management Information System (EMIS) as part of its support to Government of Malawi’s Power Sector Reform Project (PSRP).PSRP is one component of the $350.7 million Malawi Compact.

The rationale to install this new system is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ESCOM’s business processes and customer service delivery.
