MILESTONE TO MALAWI COMPACT AS ESCOM MIGRATES TO NEW SYSTEM

Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM0 has finally migrated to a new Management Information System (MIS) which is expected to enhance efficiency by, among others, consolidating all work and systems at ESCOM.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), through the Millennium Challenge Account-Malawi (MCA-Malawi), initiated to support the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) with the supply, installation, implementation, commissioning and support of an ESCOM Management Information System (EMIS) as part of its support to Government of Malawi’s Power Sector Reform Project.

The rationale to install this new system is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ESCOM’s business processes and customer service delivery.

MIS Project Manager David Tandwe, explains that the new system brings with it a myriad of advantages to ESCOM customers as well as to the company as it will ensure efficiency and effectiveness of business processes.

Before the new system was effected on January 18, 2018, ESCOM was using archaic multiple non-integrated systems and manual processes.

With such an old system in place, ESCOM operations were severely constrained and impaired due to the lack of an integrated management information system.

But with a new MIS in place, ESCOM will implement new systems in areas where there were no computer systems in place; integrate all the business processes into a unified information system, and ensure that the organization’s business processes and information systems are well-aligned to industry best practice in the power sector.
