MCA-M DISTRIBUTES FRUIT SEEDLINGS TO CENTRAL REGION PAPs

MCA-Malawi has distributed 78,831 fruit seedlings to the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in the Central Region out of the 86,246 seedlings that were earmarked for distribution in the region.

The seedlings have been successfully delivered to PAPs in Dedza, Balaka, Ntcheu and Lilongwe districts.

The distribution of the seedlings is part of the Livelihood Restoration Plan (LRP) which a resettlement action plan consultant, SMEC International, developed on behalf of MCA-Malawi.

Prior to receiving the seedlings, the recipients of the seedlings were trained on how to handle the trees last year, according to MCA-Malawi Resettlement Officer Felix Mzamu.

Through the Livelihood Restoration Plan and the LRP, the $350.7 million Malawi Compact is minimizing the impact of the project on persons to be affected.

The idea is to restore the standards of living and preferably improve the livelihoods of those individuals, households, and families who lost land, assets or access to resources due to the implementation of the compact project projects.
