FICHTNER IMPRESSED WITH PACE ON CHINTHECHE SUBSTATION REHAB

MCA-Malawi Consulting Engineer Fichtner says it is impressed with the pace and good progress on rehabilitation works for Chintheche Power Substation in Nkhatabay. Fichtner Electrical Engineer Isaac Ginara said this last week on the sidelines of an inspection visit by MCA-Malawi staff at the substation. ”So far everything is as good as finished and I see that what remains is to install overhead lines,” Ginara told MCA-Malawi Director responsible for Monitoring, Evaluation and Economics, Themba Chirwa. Chint Electric Limited of China is rehabilitating and modernizing the substation while Kalpataru Limited of India is expected to construct a 132 kilovolts (kV) line parallel to the existing 66kV line in the northern region from Chintheche to new Luwinga then to new Bwengu substations. All this work is under the Transmission Network Upgrade Sub-Activity of the Infrastructure Development Project (IDP), a component of the $350.7 million Malawi Compact.
