LILONGWE RING SECTION ENERGISED, PAVES WAY FOR BUSINESS PARK PROJECT

A 3-kilometer (Km) stretch of the 32 Km-radius Transmission line in Lilongwe City Center being constructed under the Malawi Compact, has been energized by ESCOM’s power to pave way for the resumption of construction works for the Lilongwe Grand Business Park project in Area 46 along the Lilongwe By-Pass Road.

The 66 Kilovolts (kV) Transmission Line is fondly referred to as the Lilongwe Ring.

Before energizing this the 3-Km section, ESCOM's existing transmission overhead line (OHL) had passed through the center of the 20-hectare plot where construction work for the Lilongwe Grand Business Park project was taking place.

This then meant that construction works for the Park could not proceed, with the transmission line intact on site.

The Ring is being constructed by an Indian firm, Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited, and is expected to stabilize electricity supply and increase access to electricity in the Capital City.

It is part of the Infrastructure Development Project, a key component of the $350.7 million Malawi Power Compact, set to end on September 20, 2018.

Here are some of the pictures depicting the energized section of the Ring:
