Millennium Challenge Account-Malawi (MCA-Malawi) on March 8, 2018 joined the international community in commemorating the International Women’s Day (IWD).

This is a day when, globally, the world celebrates the Social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.

MCA-Malawi staff, led by the Chief Executive Officer Dye Mawindo, celebrated the day in style with an in-house theme : “Press for progress in gender and social inclusion.”

“It is very important to observe the day in order to assess the women empowerment within the [Malawi] Compact and strategize how to address the remaining gaps,” said Mawindo.

Mawindo said it was also imperative for MCA-Malawi, its consulting engineer [Fichtner], ENRM grantees, ESCOM and EGENCO to take advantage of the time to take stock of the contributions made towards the empowerment of women and girls.

On this day, all MCA-Malawi ladies had a photoshoot in the morning and were all clad in blue pair of jean trouser along with an MCA-branded long sleeve white shirts (blouse) and black high heeled shoes.

To show solidarity, MCA-Malawi were also requested to wear MCA-Malawi branded white shirts with black trousers/ blue jeans.

The international theme for the day was “Time is now: Rural and urban activists transforming girls and women’s rights.”

The day was set aside to celebrate achievements by women in all sectors.

Nationally, the commemorations were held at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC).

Meanwhile, in with this year’s theme, the United Nations (UN) is pushing for a gender parity agenda through 2030.
