MCA-M BOARD MEMBERS INSPECT NKULA A REHAB WORKS

The Millennium Challenge Account Malawi (MCA-Malawi) Board of Trustees on Monday (August 7, 2017) visited Nkula A Hydro-power Station to appreciate on-going rehabilitation and upgrading works at the plant. Among others, the Board members appreciated construction works of a new state-of-the-art switchyard, Nkula A intake and outlet cofferdams and the replacement of obsolete equipment for Units 1, 2 and 3 at the power house. Refurbishment works at the site are part of the Infrastructure Development component of the United States of America (USA) $350.7 million power sector grant to the Malawi Government. The refurbishment works are a first of its kind in the history of Nkula A, commissioned in 1966, as no major repairs have been made to the aging plant since then.
